I absolutely love the imagery. It has a creepy innocence to it which makes it all the more intriguing. I really like the contrast between mediums and color, it was a brilliant decision. It really emphasizes the idea, emotion and style of the different images. In regards to a suggestion about showing some of the eye, I disagree. It the smile ("say cheese") is the perfect amount and point to the whole concept. Great execution.

Hey there Justin. I actually found this piece to be quite interesting in spite of its simplicity. I was immediately drawn in by the torn smiley face banner(?), its very mysterious because judging from the visible facial features one can only imagine what sort of crazy eyes lie behind that mask, it sort of leaves you wanting more! It is apparent that you have a very unusual thought process when creating these works, which is always a good thing because i am not a fan of normality. The subtle splash of blue ink in the background is a very nice touch, i think that particular shade of blue works quite nicely in this piece, although i would have liked to see more of the texture that's visible under the figures left elbow and by his right ribs, i think it works much better than the scratchiness towards the top, although i still enjoy it. The figure itself is quite nice and entertaining. I rather enjoy your cartoon style and mastering the bic pen is no easy task! Many kudos to you for pulling it off so well. Unlike what others have stated about it needing more shading, I disagree. I actually like how it feels almost "ghost-like", it just adds that much mystery and character to the figure. I'm left wondering "who (or what) is this guy?". All in all i think it is a rather fine piece and i quite enjoy it. As a newcomer to your art I look forward to seeing future pieces from you.

For me the picture seems to represent the two sides of drug use. The yellow smiley face was used to represent acid house in the early 90's whilst straws are often used to snort drugs. Where these colourful symbols represent expectations and the the resultant high brought on by drug use the gaunt and manic looking black pen drawing emerging behind shows the resultant paranoia, craving and lack of self control brought on by over use. That's my take on it anyway.

Well, I have competition now!
I have to say, my favorite part of this drawing is the blue "background." Is that India Ink as well? It has a watercolor feel to it, and I appreciate when someone can take one medium and make it look/feel like something else. Additionally, the blue really makes this guy pop!
I also like that you didn't render his whole body and only added shading on certain parts of his body. It makes me feel like he's pale and sickly, but his smile contradicts that feeling. I do wish I could catch a glimpse of his own eyes. Maybe a slit cutting through one of the eyes on the paper he's masking himself with.

The firt thing I noticed about this is the very low amount of colour. It isn't bad, but it gives me a glazed over feel. I like the basic premise is great. I like the style it's in, and my favourite part is probably the teeth. I don't like the simple detail at times. I would like to see more detail in the figure, more structure, but other than that, it's nearly one of my favourites based on the particular style.
